Historic pub unveils new look and new menu

An historic East Yorkshire pub has launched a new look and a new menu to coincide with the Summer Solstice.

From the 21st June, The Ferguson Fawsitt Arms at Walkington, famous for its Carvery and steak pies will add a new selection of tasty and unusual home cooked pies to its popular daily Carvery menu and will celebrate the launch of the new menu with a ‘Pie Week’ promotion that runs from 21st to 25th June inclusive.

The new menu will feature at least five different pies daily from an innovative selection that includes pork and apple with puff pastry, fisherman’s pie with bubble and squeak topping, turkey, chestnut and leek with chestnut puff pastry, game pie with cold water pastry and vegetable pie with vegetarian suet pastry.

Ray Clegg, General Manager and licensee of the Ferguson Fawsitt, is excited by the changes; “The development team here at the Fergie follows food trends carefully and we were interested to see a ‘pie culture’ emerging in the South East of England and wanted to be the first to bring it to Yorkshire.”

Ray’s wife Hanne continued; “Visitors to the Ferguson Fawsitt have enjoyed our legendary steak pies for over 25 years and now they can enjoy an extensive range of tasty pies with exciting toppings. We have noticed that the popularity of our pies has been growing steadily and thought that the time was right to shake the menu up a bit and get creative with our pie offering. We’re delighted with the results and can’t wait for Pie Week for customer feedback. There will be a special promotion during pie week featuring a choice of pie (served with fresh, seasonal, home cooked vegetables) and a half of a pint of real ale or a soft drink and we will round the week off with some live music from celebrated local pianist Adam Hembrough on the Friday night.”
Of the new look, Ray said; “The new logo has been designed to encourage younger people and families to try out the new menu and we offer small portions of the pies and other meals especially for children.”

The new menu will be available from the Carvery between 12 and 2pm and 5.30 and 9pm Monday to Saturday and between 12 and 9pm on Sunday. The new cook to order menu that includes fish, gammon, steaks and burgers is also available between 12 and 9pm every day except Sunday.

Steeped in history, the 144 year old Ferguson Fawsitt in Walkington is a traditional free house that has been delighting visitors with its convenient location, comfortable surroundings and great quality, home cooked meals for generations.
